Treat your aquarium fish as you would like to be treated

There is a common saying that goes something like this: “Treat others as you would like others to treat you”.

Let’s apply that to your aquarium fish.

If you were an aquarium fish, how would you want your owner to treat you? I can think of all kinds of ways that I would like to be treated if I were a fish. Here’s my list of how to treat your aquarium fish like you would want to be treated.

  • I don’t want to be starved, and I like variety. Don’t go for days and days without feeding your fish, and when you do feed them, mix it up… feed them different types of fish food that have different benefits.
  • I don’t want to live in a stressful environment. Don’t crowd your fish or overpopulate your tank. Don’t frequently do things that make your fish want to jump out of the tank. Don’t add another inhabitant that will bully the other tank inhabitants. Not a good thing.
  • I don’t want to breath unclean air. Keep your fishes water clean and clear… that is what they breath. Keep important water parameters in check and run proper filtration. Your fish will thank you.
  • If I’m sick, I want to take action to become healthy. If you have sick fish, don’t just let them sit there and be sick (unless you are positive there is nothing you can do). Take some action to either improve their living environment or correct the conditions that caused the sickness in the first place. Also treat the fish if you need to.

I’m sure there are a lot of more bullet points that could be listed out here, but there is no need to ramble on and on, you get the idea. Start treating your aquarium fish as you would like to be treated and you will have a healthy tank full of fish to enjoy.
